Glorious Goodwood is finally here, and in our first year putting the Angles system to work on this meeting, Day One has thrown up one of the richest spreads of angles we’ve seen yet. Eight races, over a hundred runners, and our algorithms have already picked out seven horses worth watching closely as the card unfolds, with some of the biggest prizes of the entire week up for grabs along the way. This is the kind of day RHR Angles exists for.
🟢The afternoon opens with the Coral Chesterfield Cup Handicap at 13:50 over a mile and two furlongs, and it’s here that LIBERTY LANE has been flagged at 12/1 by our Winning Rating angle. Clifford Lee takes the ride for Karl Burke, and the numbers behind this one are compelling. She’s a course and distance winner already, plus she boasts a 50% win record at the course itself. She’s won four times in this class before now, and while her recent form has been mixed, the figure that matters most is the one our system is built around: she’s back down to almost exactly the rating she last won off. History says that’s precisely when this type finds another gear.🟢
🟡Not long after comes the Coral Vintage Stakes at 14:25, a Group 2 test over seven furlongs for the season’s two year olds, and PIKACHU has been identified at 15/2 by our Bred For The Trip angle. David Egan partners for Charlie Johnston aboard this Frankel colt, and the shape of his career so far tells its own story. He was second on debut, had a blip next time, then came back up to third last time out, trending the right way as the tasks get sterner. He’s already shown he handles this trip, and with Frankel’s own strong record at the distance behind him, the breeding and the form are pulling in the same direction.🟡
🟠Then the afternoon really starts to heat up. The HKJC World Pool Lennox Stakes at 15:00, another Group 2 over seven furlongs, brings LAKE FOREST into view at 10/11, sent off a warm order and picked out by our Standout Combos angle for the partnership of Cieren Fallon and William Haggas. This is a jockey and trainer pairing with a serious record at this course, and Lake Forest’s own figures back it up nicely too, with two wins and two places from six runs at the trip. He opened this campaign with a win before checking in fifth last time out, and when Fallon and Haggas combine at this level, it’s an RHR angle worth taking seriously.🟠

🟠Half an hour later, the meeting reaches its centrepiece: the Al Shaqab Goodwood Cup Stakes at 15:35, a Group 1 over the full two miles worth £283,550 to the winner, with eight declared to run for the season’s true stayers. SCANDINAVIA arrives at 10/11 with arguably the strongest Standout Combos figure our algorithm has returned all week, and the reason is staring you in the face. Six starts, six wins, the full house. He’s unbeaten at the course, unbeaten at the trip, and unbeaten in all six runs wearing cheekpieces. Ryan Moore takes the ride for Aidan O’Brien, and when this partnership fires at Goodwood, it fires often. Pairing an unbeaten Justify colt with a team who know exactly how to get the job done here is about as strong a combination of storylines as this card produces.🟠
🟠The card keeps delivering with the Coral Rewards Shaker Handicap at 16:10, a five furlong dash where TOCA MADERA holds real appeal at 25/1, another Standout Combos pick built around Daniel Tudhope and David O’Meara. On pure form this one looks workmanlike, with no course and distance win yet and a modest strike rate at the trip. But that’s exactly why this is a combo angle rather than a form pick. Tudhope and O’Meara’s own numbers together at this course carry real statistical weight, and finding a price of 25/1 behind that kind of partnership record is exactly the sort of value this angle is designed to unearth.🟠
Worth noting too: the British Stallion Studs EBF Maiden Stakes at 16:45 returned no qualifiers under any of our four RHR angles today. Nothing for the first time two year olds in that one, which is exactly why our systems only ever flag what the data genuinely supports rather than forcing an angle into every race on the card.
🟠As the afternoon rolls on, the Bolney English Wine Fillies’ Handicap at 17:20 sees ANNASTARZY identified at 5/1, our fourth and final Standout Combos angle of the day, teaming Joe Leavy with Richard Hannon. This Sea The Stars filly already boasts a perfect course and distance record from her only try there, and she arrives in red hot form. After a couple of quieter efforts earlier in her campaign she’s rattled off three straight wins, including last time out. Add in a jockey trainer partnership with a strong record at this course, and this is a genuinely exciting angle.🟠
🟢And to bring the card home, the World Pool Bet With The Tote EBF Fillies’ Handicap at 17:55 sees GOLD DIGGER rounded off at 10/1, a second Winning Rating identification for the day. Saffie Osborne rides for Roger Spencer, and this Starman filly won off a mark of 94 just fifty seven days ago. She’s back within two pounds of that exact figure today. She also steps out in cheekpieces and a tongue strap for the first time, a double equipment change that often signals a yard looking for that extra edge, and it lines up neatly with everything the Winning Rating angle is built to catch.🟢
Seven angles, four different systems finding an edge, and a card that runs all the way from a red hot Group 1 to a competitive fillies’ handicap. Glorious Goodwood Day One has all the makings of a very good day for anyone paying attention. As always, our angles are built fresh each morning once declarations, going, and markets settle, so treat this as your early look at the shape of the day rather than the final word. Keep an eye on RHR Angles as the gates open, because this is exactly the kind of card where the data has done its homework.
